If you are just learning how to clean a gun, it can help to know that there are several steps that are common to cleaning most firearms. Naturally, the first step is always a safety one--make sure the gun is not loaded. Next, check out the bore area to make sure it isn't being blocked, then clean and oil. You will want to make sure you do this according to your manufacturer's recommendations for best results.
Make sure that you know how much you can break your gun down for a cleaning; some firearms can be disassembled more than others. After this step, you'll want to clean any parts of the action that are exposed. Once you have finished with all of these things, you can clean and polish the outside of the gun.
